Your personal information is a valuable part of your financial life. Merrill Lynch recommends monitoring your information the same way you monitor your money. This is an overview of the types of personal information that can make up your identity.

• Your full name
• Home address and ZIP code
• Phone number
• Date of birth
• Social Security number or national ID number
• Mother's maiden name
• Driver's license number
• Passport details
• Debit or credit card numbers
• Password/PIN codes
• Fingerprint or other biometric indicator
• The three numbers on the back of your credit card

A reminder

You are not necessarily a victim of identity theft and fraud if someone steals your wallet, or if you receive a suspicious e-mail or phone call. Identity theft is a cumulative process; over a period of time someone accumulates your personal information without your knowledge.
