Michael Kleinsmith has worked closely with a distinguished high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clientele in Silicon Valley, California and 15 other states since 1990. In the spirit of helping clients achieve their financial goals with the least amount of risk possible, Michael believes that superior wealth management requires care and attention to areas that can affect client wealth – beyond investments.“A tremendous privilege for me is talking to and learning from clients – whether they’re CEOs explaining their view of the economy or physicians identifying opportunities and challenges in health care. I share ideas with clients and they do the same. There’s no substitute for face-to-face discussions and real-world research,” Michael says.On behalf of CEOs of technology companies, entrepreneurs and owners of pre-IPO businesses, physicians, attorneys, retirees, widows, and multiple generations of families, Michael has long taken a planning-based approach that leads to a disciplined implementation of integrated strategies. To formulate client portfolios, Michael manages a portfolio of selected stocks that increase their dividends on a yearly basis. “That’s often a core of client holdings,” Michael points out. “From there, we may aim for growth. Clients tend to take too much risk, or way too little. I make it my business to explain the degrees of risk.”For many clients, diversifying against concentrated stock is a critical role that Michael plays. For others, wealth transfer, tax-sensitive philanthropy, and access to residential and securities-based lending are why Michael coordinates with client’s attorneys, the firm’s internal trust and insurance specialists, and Bank of America, N.A. Michael also talks to clients’ grown children about handling wealth and serves special needs families – helping them plan for lifetimes of income at reasonable rates of return.“Clients have worked hard. They deserve dynamically-managed strategies that allow for realistic scenarios and the goals they’ve set – for themselves and those they love,” Michael adds.
