Clients Are Our Focus
OUR MISSION: To be dedicated advisors—committed to helping clients organize and simplify their financial lives.
In 2000, Mike Barry and Kelly Milligan formed The Barry & Milligan Group,a dynamic team of financial professionals, with the goal of responding to the unique wealth management needs of clients through collaboration, commitment and caring. We work with a select group of busy individuals with complex financial circumstances, yet little time to devote to managing their financial affairs.
To help clients pursue their individual needs, we leverage the investment insights of Merrill Lynch and the banking convenience of Bank of America.

"We believe that having financial services integrated in the same place gives clients a complete financial picture and can simplify their decision making. We present ourselves to clients as a resource that can help with their key financial needs. That’s our job, and it’s the value we strive to bring to every relationship."

A Goals-Based Approach to Wealth Management
We begin every relationship with a detailed interview to assess each client’s unique financial situation, their personal values, and their objectives. We then define and refine a customized wealth management strategy focused on the pursuit of those goals. Once their strategy is implemented, we meet with clients regularly to review their progress and make adjustments as warranted.
The Barry & Milligan Group was founded in 2000. Our team has more than 100 years of combined experience offering customized advice and guidance. We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and professionalism in our relationships with clients. We believe strongly in a collaborative approach: every member of our team is driven to offer thoughtful, personalized advice and guidance to help enhance and simplify clients’ lives. Our team members also work to obtain advanced professional credentials in order to keep us at the cutting edge of our profession.
In today’s complex and ever-changing world, we know that it is important for the different parts of your wealth management strategies to work together as seamlessly as possible. So, with your permission, we can collaborate with your lawyers and accountants to help you pursue your financial goals. We can regularly communicate with these other advisors to see that the legal and tax implications of investment decisions are considered
"Every member of our team strives to be an exceptional, active listener and offer proactive client service. We continually share information with each other and think about carefully coordinated steps to help clients pursue their goals."

Addressing Corporate Executives’ Needs
We are well versed in helping corporate executives with the complexities associated with their compensation packages, including company stock options, restricted stock and nonqualified deferred compensation. When guiding you in developing diversification strategies for these holdings, including 10b5-1 sales plan design and execution, Rule 144 sales, cashless stock exercise and sale, restricted sale or charitable techniques, we also consider your other assets and risk tolerance.
While unique, your needs as a corporate executive could include any of the following:
Extensive capabilities and resources
Our range of wealth management services goes far beyond asset management and investments. By accessing the vast resources at our disposal, we can target and address each of your wealth management needs.
Strengthening Your Business
Closely held businesses can raise a myriad of emotional and financial issues. Our goal is to keep you focused on managing your business while we assist in organizing and growing your personal wealth.
The needs of every business owner are unique, and could include any of the following:
Funding Your Business Operations
A key part of managing your business is having access to working capital through Bank of America that helps you meet day-to-day expenses while providing for employees' pay, benefits and costs. We can work with you to develop strategies designed to help your cash work as hard as you do.
Building Your Business
There are alternatives besides using your personal assets to build and expand operations. We offer access to a wide range of credit and lending solutions through Bank of America, N.A., that can unlock the borrowing power of your business.
Safeguarding Your Business
Some issues can have a significant impact on your business or on the ability of you, your family and your employees to benefit from what you have created. We can help you and your employees to manage the risks you face with insurance coverage, estate planning services, as well as personalized wealth management strategies.
"We know clients are extremely busy, so our focus is on making it easier for them to spend less time worrying about things such as tax minimization and wealth transfer, and more time enjoying life."
Susan Mazzetti, CRPC®
Financial Care for Professionals
Physicians, attorneys, Certified Public Accountants and other professionals lead extremely busy lives and are focused on the urgent needs of their clients and patients. The demands of managing your own day-to-day financial needs—as well as your long-term goals—may seem insignificant compared to your professional obligations. But making appropriate decisions now could impact the financial well-being of you and your family for years to come.
Our team of professionals can work with you to help you benefit from your life’s work, drawing upon our extensive experience, capabilities and access to the insights of Merrill Lynch and banking convenience at Bank of America.
Tax minimization strategies: Susan Mazzetti can collaborate with your tax professionals to help you develop strategies designed to minimize your income tax liability by, for instance, deferring income, maximizing deductions and selecting appropriate investments.
Risk management strategies: It is important to understand both how to avoid risk and how to use it to your advantage. We take a global look at all of your assets, carefully assess your tolerance for risk, liquidity needs and time horizon, and help you to design appropriate short- and long-term strategies to prepare for the unexpected.
Wealth transfer services: Kelly Milligan’s background informs the way he approaches estate planning services. In collaboration with Bank of America specialists, Kelly and the team can assist you with family foundations and donor-advised and other charitable trusts—as well as with estate administration and settlement. These specialists can also assist us as we help you transfer your wealth and secure your family’s legacy through vehicles such as living and irrevocable personal trusts, family and marital trusts, and dynasty and other special-purpose trusts.
Multigenerational relationships: It is our steadfast goal to develop and maintain long-term relationships, and be a valued resource for you and your family. We have found that financial transitions are easier when decisions are made in advance of major events, such as an inheritance or the sale of a family business. When you feel it is appropriate, we will engage your heirs in our meetings because we feel that it is important for families to discuss the transfer of their wealth in addition to their values about money.
Access to Bank of America banking services: Through Michelle Walsh, a Merrill Lynch Banking Advisor, we offer access to an expansive array of home financing, and credit and lending services, including securities-based lending. We also collaborate with the Bank of America and Merrill Lynch commercial bank to offer commercial property lending, lines of credit and cash management, and with the investment bank for guidance on mergers, acquisitions and initial public offerings.
“We can provide an integrated, coordinated corporate benefits experience, allowing participants to access all of their benefits on one platform."

Meeting the Needs of Executives and Plan Sponsors
Often, successful corporations offer robust benefit packages that are a crucial part of their business strategy. These packages help employers recruit and retain highly talented employees and can assist those employees in seeking their personal financial goals. With today’s rapidly changing regulations, heightened fiduciary concerns and complex reporting requirements, however, the complexity of these programs demands more time and care from retirement plan sponsors than ever before.
In addition to our substantial real-world experience, both Michael Barry and Kelly Milligan hold the Certified 401(k) Professional (C(k)P™) designation. They both have extensive experience in the design and implementation of a broad array of corporate benefits. These include defined contribution, defined benefit, nonqualified deferred compensation and executive trading programs.
We work with specialists from Merrill Lynch’s Executive and Equity Plan Services group to support you as you design and administer the benefit programs that are critical to your company’s success. Our process consists of:
All guarantees and benefits of an insurance policy are backed by the claims-paying ability of the issuing insurance company. They are not backed by Merrill Lynch or its affiliates, nor do Merrill Lynch or its affiliates make any representations or guarantees regarding the claims-paying ability of the issuing insurance company.
On June 28, 2013, San Francisco Business Times published NABCAP's list of Premier Advisors. NABCAP, a 501(c)3 non-profit, assesses 20 categories of practice management and objectively compares and evaluates all participants numerically. A minimum score must be attained for a practice to be considered for the final list, and the winners are then listed in alphabetical order. The list details Advisory practice credentials, specialties, avg. size client and size of practice. There is no cost for advisors to participate and be considered for publication.
